3 tips to stop a dog barking

Although a dog could be classified as man’s best friend; The best friends are the ones that can annoy us the most. Of these nuisances, a dog’s barking can not only be loud, but can oftentimes be an excruciating pain to bear. When a dog just won’t stop barking, what do you do? Yell at the dog and tell it to stop, while he makes as much of a racket as the dog?

First of all, distinguish why your dog is barking. Dogs bark for many reasons. Although some of these reasons may be justifiable, many are not. To prevent mindless barking, you need to identify what sets it off. Certain noises, movements or even actions can cause your dog to start barking non-stop.

Once you’ve recognized these triggers, it’s time to take steps to correct them. A great way to start is through repetition. Choose a phrase to say consistently and repetitively when your dog begins to bark. At first you may find this just as annoying as the dog’s barking, however you must remember that a dog responds and learns through repetitive behaviors. When the dog is done barking, simply give it a treat. It is better to use the treat that they seek the most so that they want it constantly.

The key to being successful with this approach is to be consistent. Every time your dog barks, you repeat the phrase over and over so he can hear you, and then reward him when he stops. Eventually, your dog will attribute a reward with stopping barking.

Using different approaches to this can be inhumane or just not good for you and your dog. A dog may come to resent the approaches you take. It can also lead to an increase in bad behavior.
