Does my dog keep getting more reactive?

I bought my dog biscuit about a year ago, now it is two years old. For the first six months I had it, it was so perfect while I was away from home. He was so indifferent to other people and dogs, never giving them a second glance. In recent months, it has become increasingly reactive. She is now at the point where everyone around her is terrified by her barking, lunging, or growling. He even behaves this way towards my roommate when she first comes home (even though he loves her). He’s a big baby and has never hurt anyone, but I HATE not being able to take him into public areas anymore. It’s so humiliating when he reacts this way. I’ve been working with him on this issue, but does anyone have any advice on what to do the moment he becomes reactive? I feel like the stress it gives me only makes the situation worse. I see people saying don’t comfort him in this situation as it reinforces the bad behavior.
