Need advice on rescuing puppies and taking care of food/toys

Just for some background: I just salvaged a about 1 year old pit mix a couple of weeks ago that I found on the side of a busy road. He was in very bad shape, a bad case of worms, anemia, very low weight and a nasty flea infestation with visible skin wounds. Despite this, he is a survivor and an absolute sweetheart. Unfortunately no one has claimed it and it didn’t have a microchip either so I decided to keep it. With a round of dewormers, lots of flea baths, and thorough skin care, it gets better day by day. He is not neutered and cannot be neutered until next month because his anemia is pretty bad due to roundworms and whipworms, so the vet wants to give him a month to heal before he is neutered. I also have a 7 year old male pit mix, he is neutered. So far they have gotten along pretty well, which was my main concern when bringing in a new dog. My 7 year old has the energy of a puppy so as the rescue has gotten better they will play together for hours on end. The only problem is that the rescue shows serious food protection and moderate toy protection. I mean it makes a lot of sense since the poor guy didn’t know when or where he would get the next meal from him. However today my other dog came into the room where I keep the bags of dog food and the pup got extremely aggressive towards my 7 year old son. He started growling and I heard my older dog growl. I went to try to separate them and it was too late and the puppy pounced on my older dog. My older dog is pretty strong so I was worried that he might actually hurt the pup. Luckily nothing too serious, I made a really loud noise for them to stop and scared them and they both stopped. They are doing well now, even playing again. I’m just worried that it will climb again. I already feed them in 2 separate rooms to avoid fights. I keep the bags of food in a separate room with the door closed, but the fact that the other one comes to the door sends the pup into protection mode. Same with chew toys, but not as bad. What other methods or techniques should I implement to keep the peace? I know this will take time, but I want to make sure I correct and encourage good behavior from the start. TL; DR: New rescue dog aggressive when older dog approaches room where food bags are stored or when he approaches chew toys. They get along otherwise. Tips to prevent aggression/fights. Thank you!
