Is it normal that my boyfriend [35M] it does nothing for me [25F] birthday?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for about a year. It’s going well, I love him with all my heart and I hope we’ll be together for a long time. I am a very sentimental person and I always try to do nice things for her on her anniversaries, her birthday and on Valentine’s Day. He doesn’t like gestures as much as I do, to put it mildly. We also spend time together on special days, which I appreciate, but I would really like something that I could keep and remember as the sap that I am. It doesn’t have to be something that costs money, I’m broke so in the past I drew and animated a card for his birthday and made him a list of the 50+ things I love most about him. I have tried to let him know that these types of gestures are important to me on special dates because they only happen once a year. This year we were able to spend some quality time even though we both had busy schedules, which I really appreciated, but couldn’t help but be disappointed that there was nothing else. Am I being too shallow? A year without gifts/special gestures is really getting to me, especially since I tried to explain my feelings to her earlier this year on Valentine’s Day. **TL;DR:** I’m sentimental, so giving gifts (non-monetary) is important to me. Boyfriend naturally doesn’t express affection that way, but he knows it’s important to me. Is this a big deal or should I just let it slide?
