My boyfriend’s friends “roast” me in group chat

Last weekend I (21f) looked at my boyfriend’s (24m) phone of two years without him knowing. He didn’t really have a reason to do it, but I noticed that his chat with his two best friends was especially active lately and I got curious. (FYI, we have each other’s phone passwords, but we’re only on each other when we’re in the car changing the music or something.) When I took a look, I saw that his friends had been talking shit to me. Calling my existence “cringe” after one of them shared an invitation I had extended them to a party to which I attached a bitmoji (for jokes, anyway). A few posts up, one of them was talking shit about my band that I’m incredibly proud of. All this to say that my boyfriend hadn’t reacted to a single comment from him. 1) it hurt that his friends he had been nothing but nice to act like high school students, bad-mouth someone several years younger, and demean me for no reason and 2) it hurt that my boyfriend did nothing to stand up for me in the chat. I ended up confronting my boyfriend about it, saying that he had looked at his phone and I apologized for doing so, but the comments I came across hurt me a lot. I took responsibility for looking at his phone without his knowledge and he forgave me, but he insists that his friends like to tease him and that he just ignores him when they do. I don’t think it’s cold under any circumstances to “roast” me like they do, openly insulting my existence and my passions. I’m not sure what approach to take with my boyfriend if he feels that not standing up for me was an appropriate reaction to take with his best friends. Thinking? TL:DR: My boyfriend’s friends insult me in a group chat with him, my boyfriend insists that they are the ones trying to annoy him. I don’t see anything good in that, especially since he didn’t bother defending me.
