My father told me that he cheated on my mother throughout their marriage.

I (23F) always knew my parents shouldn’t have gotten married. They were always so different and my dad (60s???M) was away a TON the entire marriage. I have extreme issues with how often my father was away during my childhood and ruined our relationship. When my parents got divorced (after I graduated from HS) I started my relationship with my dad to help fix it. My mother had a nervous breakdown after the divorce and she disclosed that my father had cheated on her. My father would never confirm or deny. Years later, while my mom was drunk, I convinced her to tell me who my dad was cheating on me with. She said that she went with one of her very close family friends. I finally got up the courage to ask her and she told me that she never slept with the family friend. Instead, she divulged (completely unprompted) that she cheated A LOT during the marriage and that one of his exes sent a box full of his stuff to my family’s house while he was still married to my mom. I am in shock. I am hurt for my mother, but even more so for myself. I was diagnosed with bulimia in high school and after intensive therapy we realized that my vomiting was a control mechanism due to the lack of control I had in my relationship with my father. The man who ruined our relationship spent his time sleeping with other women. I can’t believe he told me this and I don’t know how to fix it. I’m sorry if there are errors that I literally just discovered and I’m writing in tears. My mom is my best friend and we’re incredibly close, but he told me she doesn’t know the half of it. I am devastated and feel like all the work I did with my father as an adult was for absolutely nothing and is worth nothing now. TL;DR, my father spontaneously shared with me that he cheated on my mother throughout his marriage. I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to fix this.
