Thought I’d introduce myself. My name is Alex Yerks and I’ve been a full-time, self-taught green carpenter for over ten years. I specialize in Kuksas (hand carved wooden cups), spoons, bowls and other “kitchenalia” items as I like to call it. Some of you here may already know me, but I have never posted my work on Reddit. My main specialty has been kuksas and I have taught this craft around the world at various folk schools, carving festivals and universities. It has been a great experience to push my craft further and also collaborate with some well-known blacksmiths to create tools that didn’t exist before or modify types of tools to suit the mug designs I’ve created. Now when I see kuksas around the world carved and used, it really makes me happy to know that I have played a part in this. I hope to share more of my work, some stories and other ideas. Here is a photo of my latest work. Everything is carved 100% with manual tools, mainly ax and knife.
Eventually, a one-stop vena for a lifetime of woodwork plans!
