Our kitchen facelift

https://imgur.com/a/TrKHDYs We really debated how much time and money we wanted to invest in our kitchen. We were originally going to cut the L out of the countertop and open it up and install an island. But after giving it a lot of thought and analyzing numbers, we decided that since we now have an empty nest and I’m really alone in the kitchen 99% of the time, why spend that amount of money? We also went around and around to replace the microwave on the stove that stopped working and got stuck to the one on the counter so we could put an extractor hood in its place. I wanted the range hood and I think it would have looked great, but it eventually won the counter space. The cabinets were in good shape so we just painted. 3 coats of zinsser primer and 4 coats of behr cabinet paint and additional pulls. We have decided, after the fact, to replace the hinges with white ones and we have yet to do so. The counters were still in good shape, freshly dated, so we refinished them using the Daich stone in onyx mist (which I like so much that I’ll be using it in our master bathroom below). The backsplash is a 3D wallpaper. It’s a cheat, but you can’t honestly tell at a glance and I’m fine with it. I don’t have an exact number, but I know we are under $ 500. It took about 3 weeks and most of it was drying time. Overall, I am quite satisfied, both with the cost and the look. I am in the southern United States. Below I am doing the same process with the kitchen table and chairs that I did with the cabinets and hope for the best.
