I’ve always read online that whatever you write first is garbage and should be rewritten. But now that I’ve finished my book, after 3 drafts, I haven’t changed as much as people have told me I should (statistically). I have read several times that 2/3 of the content of a first draft never makes it to the final cut. Maybe I have only rewritten a tenth part. Mostly I updated some fluency in the dialogue, fixed inconsistencies and spelling / grammar issues. Is it a bad sign that you haven’t cut or changed much? Does it mean that I am not critical enough of my own work?
