Why do people hate time jumps so much?

I got a comment on my story that said “oh, time doesn’t skip. Anyway, I’m sure the story will be very interesting.” I also saw someone in a video saying “because we all know that time jumps are the favorite part of a show, so why not start with one?” Are time jumps that bad? In my story, the first parts set the backstory of the main characters with their childhood friend, and I think that is a very important part of the story. The rest of the story onwards is in the present. Can anyone answer this for me? Edit: It’s a coming-of-age story, and it’s supposed to be slower and very character driven. The person who commented on this only said it once and had positive reviews from other parts of the story. My main character is being able to dream other people’s dreams by drinking blood. The backstory at the beginning and the one explored in the story are not the same.
